What is Nature Museum Hokkaido?

Nature Museum Hokkaido is an information portal site that introduces the charms of Hokkaido through a new angle: the starry sky.

Hokkaido is known for its cuisine, snow festivals, world heritage sites, Yosakoi dance, and other keywords. But, Hokkaido’s biggest charm is its abundant natural environment. A skyful of stars in the clear winter air, breathtaking streams of light in the summer night skies. Under the right conditions, even the aurora borealis can be observed. Hokkaido is truly blessed with an ideal environment for stargazing. This website, Nature Museum Hokkaido, brings a wealth of information about Hokkaido’s starry skies and best stargazing spots, highlighting areas with beautiful night skies certain to bring joy to stargazers’ hearts, and provides a variety of information about the stars themselves.


About Operation Organization

This website is operated by the Nature Museum Hokkaido Executive Committee. The Committee is sponsored by Hokkaido Telecommunications Network Co., Inc.


Objectives of Website Operation

The operation of this website, Nature Museum Hokkaido, is part of the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications “Information and Communication Technologies Local Economic Revitalization Project (Ubiquitous Zone Project)”, a project to increase the ability to transmit local information.

In addition, the selected consignment candidates held an opinion and idea exchange meeting, furthering their cooperation for the future of this project and inaugurating the “Local Information Transmission Improvement Council” in order to further provide substantial proven results. Through participation in the Council, Nature Museum Hokkaido, as the selected consignee for Hokkaido, seeks to establish links with other regions.
